I had a few extra minutes on my way through Salt Lake, so I stopped at Fairmont for a super-quick session, just to get my mind off of work. I stuck to the pool (most of the rest of the park was wet), and aimed high and fast, which helped me finally get back into the coping of the shallows.

Feels like I’m starting from the bottom of the hill again, but that’s what happens when you break the skating habit at my age, I guess.

I stopped by Fairmont skate park in Sugarhouse on my way north to pick up Wills. Spent a relentless half hour in the pawn bowl with a couple of OMA-worthy gents. I worked on carving those square corners hard and fast–so hard, in fact, that I swear I heard my tail cracking on the corners. That freaked me out, you can bet. I also worked on 50-50s in the 6′ shallows, taking several frightening bails before finally rolling back in on a weak one.

As one of my compatriots said, everything’s a matter of chipping away.
