A quick update: the RainSkates have not disappointed. They are surprisingly grippy on transitions with a little pressure on toes or heels, and yet they still slide if I want or need them to. The diameter is just what the doctor ordered--very fast. The width provides some extra stability, but it doesn't feel like that costs any of the precious speed. I'd like to compare these to some double conical, slightly harder RainSkates just to see if there's a noticeable difference.

Right on Louis! You gotta push yourself to get better, but I agree: don't do anything too risky unless you're wearing pads.

Hi Jared, I am Louis. I am getting back on a skateboard after 18 years. Last time on a board was 13 years old and now I am 31. Just bought and setup a new board last week. I get quite a few stares whenever I skates at skateparks or beach, no sure why if you are 30 it is alrite to bike,do inline skating. But once on a skateboard you will turn into a weirdo. Haha but thats other's problem, to me skateboarding bring back very fond memories of my youth days and also is it a very physically demanding sports much more then conventional sports like cycling or running.

Just 1 week ,almost 3hrs a day on my board, I felt my body reflexes better and lost quite abit of weight. Although my muscles are arching everywhere but once getting used to they will recover faster. Only thing now is try not to do too risky tricks that will sustain too much injuries. Or the wife is going to nag, can't drive myself to work, boss will ask you to join him in golf instead.Hahaha anyway its great to know there are still passionate middle-age skaters. Have fun & take care
